Privacy
Not much is kept. Here's all of it.
Looking at meets
You don't need an account to browse. No ad trackers, no cookies for ads.
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites. It tells us things like how many people came in from Google and whether they were on a phone.
Your postcode or location
If you set a postcode or suburb for Near me, it stays in your browser. It's never sent to us.
To work out drive distances, your browser asks a public routing service (router.project-osrm.org) for the distance to each meet. It gets your postcode's centre, not where you are.
If you tap Use my current location, your browser asks you first. That spot also stays in your browser, and the routing service gets it to work out distances.
Posting a meet
- What you type about the meet goes up publicly. That's the point.
- Your email is optional. If you give it, only Josh sees it, and it's only used to ask about that listing.
- A flyer or photo you upload is only shown once Josh has checked it.
- To stop spam, we keep a scrambled code made from your internet address for two days. It's scrambled with a secret key so it can't be read as an address, and it's deleted after that.
Accounts
New sign-ups are off for now. If you already have an account, we store your email and the name you chose to show on your listings.
Other services the site uses
- Supabase holds the listings and anything you post.
- Netlify serves the pages.
- Netlify and Supabase keep short server logs, including your internet address, like any web host.
- Google Fonts serves the fonts, Stadia Maps the map tiles and cdnjs the map code. Like any website you load something from, they see your internet address.
- Weather comes from Open-Meteo. It's fetched by our server, so they never see you.
Getting something removed
Email josh@coldstart.au or use Tell us something at the bottom of the home page. A listing you posted, your email, an account: say what and it goes.
